I would contend that the purpose of art is to create emotion, and this should be the only criteria on which it should be judged, not the method of obtaining it. I could even be used in modern music's favour that it can create emotions using very simple techniques. One of the great things about music is that someone could be listening to mozart and feel exactly the same as someone on the other side of the world listening to Justin Bieber.

As libreg said, the second movement is often in the relative minor to the key of the whole piece, which, in this case, is a major.
