  • That female is very ugly, and the male is cool with the yellow stripes. But not that nice.

  • I got two auratus a couple days ago. They're about 1.5-2 inches long. Both still the yellow color, but one keeps swimming by the other one and doing the mating shake. Idk know if the one is male and the other one is female. Any suggestions on how to help them mate? My 55 gallon really needs more of the auratus. If they have fry I'm gonna give my three jewels (that came with the tank that I bought) to my very close friend who is just now getting into this addictive hobby!

  • @twasbrillig33 yes, i think thet's right. The male is a really good fish with a rare look. I have four melanochromis auratus, tre female and one male. The male show two withe stripe on the shape. Your specimen is really beautifull

  • @SonicReppa this is very late but both ways are possible, it depends on the fish

  • cool vid, how big is the male auratus?

  • very neat male i love auratus cichlids, im getting some this month and cant wait beautiful job!!!!

  • Do you have to treat them like oscars and get about 6 to find a mating pair? Or can you do like you would with convicts and just throw two together and they'll breed???? plz answer!!

  • Those are some beautiful, healthy fish!

My dom. one keeps starting to change then changing its mind. We moved it to a bigger tank and I think it has decided to grow more first.

We feed 3-4 times a day and so far have no problem with them beating up on other fish. We have them with balas, tinfoil barbs, and danios. Danios are great at eating the small crumbs the bigger fish miss.

I just ordered a special food with carrots, beets and mostly spirulina to try to get brighter colors.
