(please excuse quality; taken on a Canon Powershot;) 2005 PRE mare for dressage; started under saddle using gentle methods. This filly is out of an Olympic prospect Grand Prix dressage sire Grandioso of Hampton Green Farms.
Please excuse the bumpy/poorly edited footage. I took this with a Canon Power Shot. I did not have my video camera nor a tripod.
You can see the filly starting to "join up" at 1 minute in.
Trainer Tracy Ward of Santa Ynez, CA uses Monty Roberts "join up" methods to build confidence and rapport as well as establish dominance with the horse. Uses body language and voice commands (although not audible in video) to direct the horse. She waits until this filly will come to her and fallow her willingly before mounting. Also uses methods such as guiding the horse slightly away from the outside in order for the horse to learn balance and to start to learn to bend in naturally.

  • Well who knows what your'e doing now 2 years later, but I just had to stop and comment. Great stuff, you really had fun didn't you? At first when he was charging around I thought"she is going to get on THAT!" I have to see this. Then he was a lot calmer. just do as you feel, read, talk to pros and put it all together and try to progress. Of course you can look him in the eye ANYTIME, it just depends on how yu do it. Hope you're both fine nowadays, good luck.

  • Slower means faster, and taking more time will usually help you get to your goals faster. The goal should not be to get on the horse as soon as possible but to train the horse correctly in however long it takes to obtain permanent results. Also a young or green horse should be introduced to the trot, only gradually and only at the rising trot to begin with, this will enable the horse to step better under itself and .. if you wish more feedback contact me at classicalspanishequitation.weebly.com

  • you should have made slower movements with your eyes and body. Also im sure u know this but NEVER look your horse in the eye! it means GO AWAY and put your arm up fast also means to Go AWAY!
