Why the hell does it matter whether this is the CD version or the actual audio from the performance? Either way he sounds awesome

This version is from EFY 2000: Forward With Faith. To clear up the version debate.

Must have been during the winter olympics in Salt Lake. However, you can't hear the fireworks going off in the background. Second, when it is really cold like this the tuning of instruments changes. Thus, many performers lip sync in cold weather outdoor performances. Still a great song and great performance.

first!

This can't be the actual audio. It's snowing, he's cold, the crowd is entirely silent, and the song sounds EXACTLY like the CD version? This is NOT the audio from the performance.

It is definitely not the studio version from Songs about the Great Divide. I doesn't sound at all like the CD version as you say. If it is a different version it may be from his live album but it is not his CD album version, I know that for sure as I have listened to it hundreds of times and it completely different.
