These girls are talented dancers but I wish Hmong people would do more original dances and less other cultures. Its kinda weird if you're a non-Hmong person to come to a new year to see Hmong tradition but see Thai, Indian (or whatever isn't ours) dancing. All these cultures are great and have beautiful dancing, but wouldn't it be great to show everyone our own? Just saying in general to all Hmong people who practice entertainment. Let's create ours instead of showing how good we can do theirs.

I see your point but if you have a problem with how the HmongNewYear is held, you should be discussing with the HmongNewYear community staffs and boards. We are aware of what kind of dance we practice. It's the rules of any competition we go by, if we didn't we wouldn't get in the competition in the first place anyways right?

From my personal point of view, Hmong dance is great for keeping traditons, but

honestly it is not very entertaining. And if you alter too many things it wouldn't be a Hmong dance anymore. I mean come on, just because someone applied bollywoods/Chinese/Thia/Laos dance movements and wear Hmong cloths for a Hmong song doesn't make is Hmong dance. I really don't think this is any more

appropriate than dancing to another cultures song. And if you want to go down the the details, this may even be more wrong since it is ruining the traditional way of Hmong dancing.

The dance is really pretty, but alot of dances i see from this group is India, i mean like your hmong you should dance hmong too not too much of that India stuff!

@stfumvs 3 Do you even have Hmong friends? By all your biased comments, you sure don't. And if you do have Hmong friends, man, so sad that your Hmong friends would see what kind of person you really are. Hmong people have friends from different culture and backgrounds regardless.

@stfumvs Do you have proof that Hmong Dance is similar to Lao, thai, or whatever nationality? Saying Hmong people are close minded and ignorant. You are wrong. Cause 1. you didn't learn to appreciate the Hmong culture, but instead you bashed them. That makes you biased, ignorant, and close mined. 2. do you ever see Hmong people go bash your culture or any other culture for that matter? Hmong people happened to learn and adapt other cultures instead of bashing them like you.....

there are other dance styles which is a mixture of diff styles that became it's own b/c of that. dancing isn't always restrictive. isn't that why it's called art? if someone tells u to perform a specific traditional piece of dance than of c it's more restrictive. i don't think these dance competition routines are claiming to be traditional and following certain rules. these dance competition routines are just an interpretation and these hmong girls are making it their own.
