Often, standard slotted nuts are evenly-spaced, which seems to make sense, until you play the guitar. The bigger (E,A,D) strings need a little more space in between in order to be spaced the same as the (G, B, E) lighter strings. Personally, I'd rather get a pre-radiused nut with no slots and do the rest. The hardest part, in my opinion, is rounding the nut top to match your neck radius.

true, but not a big secret. It's important to have them aligned and drill the holes in the exact place, and of course, drill the right size of holes. I drilled them too small initially, then increased since it was too tough to screw.
