This song isn’t just words for an addiction. It highly represents a relationship. It has two meanings. I really believe that she uses the metaphor of ‘Sober’ to describe the feeling of her break up/ heart ache. Awesome song she is so talented!

I agree. Sober to me is less about alcohol or drugs, and more about how when you're in so much pain emotionally, you almost shut down, or want to. In a way heartbreak is like withdrawal from an addiction, the addiction being love.
