It's sad how underrated this film is. I can definately see some problems in the theatrical version but the final cut version that's about 3 and a half hours long is simply amazing. If you haven't seen it, check it out now!

I knew Colin trained hard for Alexander but not this hard. Behind the scenes film is as interesting as the film its self!

There is much writing in the newspapers that Colin Farrell is a bad boy but how is he really? Is he a douchbag or easy to work with in movies and stuff? Would be interesting to know.

Alexander was Brilliant because he blended different military units to create something much greater than the some of their parts.
Heavily Hoplites could always stand their ground but were slow, he complimented them with medium weight infantry, who could screen hoplite flanks and then he had heavy calvary on those flanks and light calavery on those flanks and he placed missle troops to give them all cover fire. He could crush you with his center or attack gaps with his mobile calvary.

If I were an actor and I was playing a great Greek or Roman military figure, I would want a trio like this. Obviously you need someone who knows martial arts and the use of ancient weapons, you want someone to show you how to be comfortable on horseback and you would want a USMC man who could show you how to look like a real soldier.
For those who do not know, Read Victor Davis Hanson, as he is correct in asserting that the USMC has a similar ethos as the great Greco-Roman infantry tradition.

@Morttinen agree, the final cut is amazing

@winningtrolls lol I was gonna say Charonea too
but the movie is good (to me) either or...Tyre would have been great to see
-
@theprodigy1600 Well i thought about that many of hours where would i start......I think i would start at the battle of chorenea.... I think thats were alexander was mad a man.....The tatic he used in that battle he repeated many times....Truth is im not a homophob....alexander and hephaestion were probaly lovers....but if i were the director i wouldnt have made such a big deal of it....I would defently put in the siege of tyre...that was a siege that the world had never seen before or since
-
@winningtrolls I understand what you mean,really i do.
Not cause i am an Alexandrist, but, how can anyone tell the FULL STORY OF ALEXANDER?
where would you start?
birth?
Olympias and Philip having sex "creating" him??
The final cut version is great!
The whole gay thing--he was bi---he loved Hephaestion but there isn't really no historical evidence they were lovers is all "spectulations" now,Bagoas is true...he did have kids and gave away a mistress,Campaspes,to his painter..so,it was accurate
-
@winningtrolls Actually Oliver mixed that batle with one that alexander actualy get injured in the same way, but not failling of the horse, but what really ruins the movie is the gay stuff :/ the movie failed to show the real greatness of alexander, but i like aniway, the gay stuff i predent doesnt exist xD
-
THis movie was visauly stunning......THE cast was great....BUT BUT the movie sucked....lets face it not enough battle scenes.....come on know this movie did not capture the grandness of alexander......the last battle against porus was fake alexander did not get injured in that battle....his horse did die though.....oliver stone shoukld have added some more battles and left the gay stuff out.....Thaty gay stuff was more the the battles......FUCK THIS MOVIE WAS A GAY PORN ACtion romanace
i get it in a forum!! :)
