@Epacris Film and Opera are very much alike. They are both communicating with a full experience of visuals, language and music. From epics like Star Wars to insightful films like Koyannisqatsi, when directors who respect music get together with talented composers, it can produce a great piece of art.

@lostpianist How much time do you spend on things you don't like? It sounds like you've learned the formula of being miserable

To any idiots from MGM watching this who may be thinking of having it taken down, bear in mind that some people watching this might well want to go out and buy the video or soundtrack. You are getting a load of free advertising.

What's amazing to me is how much faster it seems than even some of today's video/computer/web mash-ups. Reggio was using 35 MM film, with old-school editing, and he created a vision of our society that hits home better than any CGI today. A classic of the highest order.

I want this in IMAX FOREVER!

Terrifyingly compelling... I watched this on a long-haul flight between San Francisco and Sydney. Perhaps a mistake? Argh. I can't remember who said this originally but "Nobody does existential dread quite like Philip Glass".
Pure Musical Genius! An inspirational masterpiece of the highest level.

This film is like the best of operas, where both music & drama sections are excellent & can stand up on their own, but, combined, lift each other up to a whole new level.
Thank you for reminding me, & showing people who've not experienced it before. Always better on a big high resolution screen with good audio, but it still has power even in this reduced form, & might spur some of us to go & watch the whole thing in a more immersive format.
