THANKS!!!!!! BLU-RAY MET- WHEN ??? PLEASE

I have several books on its staging. One of them details Luchino Visconti's two famous productions, one with Maria Callas at La Scala, and the other at Covent Garden, this production was in black and white, and began with Violetta's death bed scene; as she remembered her past while waiting for Alfredo's return. In the Callas production, she remained standing while Alfredo threw the money in her face. Somehow her erect posture seemed to enhanced her humiliation and fortitude.

Yes, and it's really good. Decca, as usual. 2007 I believe.

I agree the acting isn't perfect, especially disappointing due to the fact that Vargas and Fleming are among the world's top of today, but on the other hand the singing is superb as always.
I just hope next production the money throwing is more dramatic :)
BTW I believe it is in the score that after the money is thrown at Violetta she doesn't get up. Happens in every production I ever seen, Violetta doesn't get up until it's her part to sing, if she does get up at all.

Is Fleming's Traviata released on DVD?

while his long phrasing, colour and vocal presence create a poised performance".
Based on the three excerpts, RV seems to be his old fine self. No cause for alarm so far.

premonitions of death, was a mesmerising tour de force".."Ramon Vargas is a thrilling Riccardo..I don't believe he has done anything better than this gloriously-voiced performance of Riccardo. He found the right kind of swagger in the voice, yet gave a meltingly lyrical rendition of his Act Three aria 'Forse la soglia attinse'..Musically,by far the finest singing comes from Ramon Vargas as Riccardo..the sheer velveteen beauty of his voice shone through, while his long phrasing, colour and vocal

The 3 principals here are currently at London's Royal Opera,RF&TH in Traviata (well received) and RV in Ballo starting 6/26. Reviews for RV's opening are starting to come in. For his fans and those who suggest that he should hang it up, I'm quoting the first three:
"Heading a strong cast is sensational Mexican tenor Ramon Vargas as Riccardo..Vargas reigned supreme, his effortlessly heroic singing oozing confidence and charisma. His final Act aria before the ball, contemplating premonitions of ...

I think some people are just too spoiled and unrealistic in expecting the brilliance and magnificence of RV's vocal artistry of old everytime he comes out. He just turned 48 here, just flown in from London for several perfs in Don Giovanni and shortly before that he did huge concerts virtually everynight at the Beijing Olympics. It takes normal people days to recover from jet lag alone! At least he SHOWED UP,unlike some much younger studs, and helped make this MET opening night a success. BRAVO!!
Gorgeous production, and I have to admit, Fleming is gorgeous.

This piece is the most hard and dramatic piece that Alfredo has to sing (beside Cabaletta). It is a tough role!..Ramon does sound a bit worn and throaty. He is one of the greatest Lyric tenors but here he is not in his best. It is a hard business and it usually feels no mercy, but Ramon is a human being...at least i´ll forgive him when the business doesn´t, he is phenomenal!
