I was filming some of the street performers in Santa Monica and caught John Foster playing drums.

  • wanna live like that. i can do all that stuff

  • @koby84 Ok Koby now you have to show us. Film yourself and post a video response.

  • I went to take a picture of this guy, and he flipped out and threw a fit. Threw his sticks on the ground, blabbing something about amendment rights, and he can't say anything about me taking his pic, because of the constitution...??? Whatever. I found it weird he would flip out about having a pic taken, when you're playing on the street at the promenade. Bizarre. Crazy talented, though. Maybe it was just a rough day. Oh well. He's lost my future donations. And I actually liked tipping him.

  • @wynnfilms Thats too bad he reacted that was and I understand how that must have made you feel. He does seem to have an issue with his image or recordings being used without his permission even though he is performing on public property. He really liked my video of him and emailed me about it stating he may ask other people to take down their videos of him sometime down the road. He wants to be in control of how his image is used yet he needs as much exposure as he can get.

  • @wynnfilms Yeah, it is too bad. I do produce little magazine shows for hotels around L.A. and his attitude kept me from asking him to sign a release form that could have gained him some residuals/royalties. I can understand now why he's been there for so long. This industry is not only about talent, but the attitude and personality that comes with it. It made me wonder how many people, with much more industry power than I could ever have, and have been turned off by his rude reactions. Too bad.

  • @wynnfilms Every time I have seen or talked to him he has been very nice. I was at 3rd St Saturday and he was nice as can be, although I didn't notice whether or not people were filming him or taking pics with their phones :)

  • @Markinter5 Yeah, that was the weird thing. He's always been super cool and calm every time I've been around him. But the one time I was down there for work he just threw a fit. It'd be really hard to work with that. I hate that I'm so judgmental, but maybe he just wants to do it for the fun. To each their own, I guess-- and rightfully so.

  • @DrummerGrrrl Lol... I thought the same thing at first. He actually made them sound that way to quiet them. He said that when the sets are really loud it kinda turns people away. The sound levels he's putting out are very inviting.

  • J.D. Foster is a phenomenal drummer!!! I had the pleasure of seeing him just a couple of days ago. This video was taken in 2007, and he has improved significantly since. He left me absolutely dumbfounded. If you're ever in Santa Monica I recommend taking a few minutes to check this guy out!

  • This guy needs someone to buy him a new set and some decent cymbals! Let's take up a collection... LOL... it's sad when really talented musicians can't afford better gear. Even those roto-toms sound like crap and I thought roto-toms always sounded good!
