One of the many installations of a Tornado Siren By Whelen Engineering. This installment is located near Montezuma, Indiana On U.S. Hwy 36.

  • I tend to disagree about how these sirens should be placed. I think "outdoor" simply means that the sirens are located out of doors. Think back to the cold war. Everyone relied on sirens because that was all they had. There were no complex weather radios or other alert systems, and that's why they had sirens. Even today there are reasons to keep them close enough to hear indoors. My hometown had Thunderbolts that you could hear indoors, and they replaced them with T-121 which we now can't hear.

  • @edisonphono1 We also need more public tornado shelters in each town.
