@philsci1 I myself don't see a reason as to why we Catholics have to apologize for the Crusades, since they were a call to Islamic and pagan aggression, nor the Conquistadors; whom basically demolished the evils of human sacrifice the Aztecs had imposed and used the gold to fund the wars in Europe against the Ottomans. And the slave trade was started by Protestants, the others took up on it, except the Spanish, whom they only took legal slaves. And colonialism is an atheist thing. Not Catholic.
@polske322 Well many things happened since Middle Ages. In the meantime some people apologized for the Conquistadors, the Inquisition, slave trade, colonialism and so on. Yet some others have not learned yet what self-criticism means and still have 'dreams of glory' not far away from what they accepted in the Middle Ages...Finally it's not about people it's about bad ideologies, like jihad or islamic law, which were not only very destructive in the past but refuse to die...

@philsci1 yeah that is my logic good job, war is war, I am against slavery but I do not believe any nation should be put to shame for having practiced it in the past, as the people subjected to it would have done the same thing in their position or something equally as bad.
@polske322 Upon your logic no one should ever apologize for the conquistadors or the slave trade in Africa...The question of Aristotelezz is way larger in scope, muslims never apologized for the aggressive jihadic wars or the sheer discrimination of the past. No apology for the fact that the first muslims 'defended', unprovoked, all the way down to France and India, for what the Turks did or for the muslim slave trade in Africa (which preceded the european trade with centuries)...
@Aristotelezz Why should they? They were trying to expand their empire, we were defending ours. All is fair in love and war. The Turks are actually among the people who most respect us Poles, believing we were a honorable foe and a fair ally. The Turks actually never recognized the partitioning of Poland in the late 18th century, and maintained a Polish Embassy.
