Why is his o uchi gari different from his osoto gari? shouldn't the fundamental idea behind the two techniques be the same? that is to remove the supporting leg out from under uke swiftly and effectively. Hence shouldn't the emphasis be on weighing Uke down on the stop rather than try to raise him up?
To me this seems to be a more agressive or competitive variation of the traditional o uchi gari as can be seen in the video clip on youtube if you where to search o uchi gari kihon.
O uchi gari we're talking about here, not uchi mata
You're hooking up one leg so you gotta transfer his balance to that same leg you just took out. The only way to do that is push backwards + to the side of the leg you attacked.
Of course in a forward motion like uchi mata it's necessary to pull the arm up and bring it back down during the throw
@bla7091 LEVERAGE! lol cause when you pull up, they are off balance, if you pull down, their leg goes higher thus making uchi mata harder to do. WHen one side of the body drops down the other to goes up.
I practice this technique as well. Very effective.

@minson56 this way is more efficient. if you can see he makes a lever out of uke's leg and shoulder and pushing him where he cant support himself

I never understood why some people pull the arm up instead of pushing it down in the direction you're throwing towards
