Electricity giant Npower has obtained an injunction to stop protests and filming at Radley Lakes, the site of a proposed ash dump in Oxfordshire.

If you don't want to risk being jailed for up to five years, avert your eyes.

I might add that I completely disagree with people threatening others, or protesters saying "I know where you live... and your family" and they undermine the peaceful effort. But I cant understand what angers them to that point - as these big companies are no better.

It's worth pointing out that when this went to court, NPower were unable to provide any evidence that anything like this was being said - it's just an arbitrary claim made by an NPower exec.

As the video shows, people do shout "you should be ashamed of yourselves" at those filling the lake, but I don't think this is particularly threatening.

I agree with you theohaighy and rotesocken. Some big companies seem to be worse than others, but they all have the potential to act in this way because of the strcuture of most of the world's economy. Do either of you know of a power company based on co-operative principals?

You'll all be pleased to know that the photographer has now challenged the injunction and it has been rescinded - although it still applies to other people who have protested at Radley Lakes.

This comes in the wake of a successful challenge to a similar injunction placed on peaceful protestors by EDO MBM, an arms manufacturer in Brighton.

So, these things can be challenged - it's just that they assume you're going to be so intimidated you aren't going to challenge them.

The "dangerous protestors" issue is a red herring; if they really got violent then the Police would be all over it.

Even if NPOWER have bulletproof reasons for destroying the lake & forrest, their subsequent response is utterly disgusting and just *wrong*. Arrogant PR, Aggressive Legal tactics, Media censorship? 5-year prison threats?
