This is a before and after video taken on the Loring Pond dock.

Our objective is to document the negative impact of fireworks on the environment.

The marsh surrounding Loring Pond (which is located in Loring Park on the edge of downtown Minneapolis) is home to a variety of migratory birds: Wood ducks, blue herons, white egrets, red-winged blackbirds, mallards and more.

At the beginning of every summer, fireworks are launched from the Loring Pond dock. With a surface area of only eight acres, Loring Pond is one of the smallest bodies of water in this 'city of lakes.' There is no place for the nesting and roosting birds to escape to when the explosives go off in their homes.

What would you do if explosives were dropped in the middle of your home? You'd probably panic and either run away in terror or freeze and get caught in the fallout.

That's what birds do. While some birds survive and find their way back to the nest, some do not.

The fireworks also leave behind toxic chemicals. And, as this video demonstrates, destroy park property.

Our point is this: Fireworks should not be allowed in Loring Park.

  • lol that was retarded but awesome at the same time! if you want to see a stupid vid check my channel and also i have a question in another vid

  • The organizers of the Gay Pride events in Loring Park should be held responsible for repairing the docks and cleaning up the mess. Apparently the effect on the wildlife and the park are of no importance to them. Maybe having to pay for repairs will make them think twice about doing this next year.

  • Very good documentation.

Very noticeable the lack of birds in the Post-Firework segment.

The Gay Pride event (and It's firework display) at Loring Park is to promote acceptance and tolerance towards people of all sexual orientations. It's proof of our civility and respect for all humans. But how sad that in celebrating our progressiveness we forget to show civility and respect for the environment and the small creatures that live there and make the park worth visiting.

  • Right on!
