@1robinsong no. not necessarily "depending on God". many off-gridders are atheist or agnostic. so 'depending on nature' is probably more accurate to say. but yeh another misconception in this video is that u have to eat "unconventional" meat products to be self sufficient. that's bullshit. u can raise livestock like a small-scale farm or even live on only fruit, vegetables and legumes.

The girl must of been brought up Catholic >< Her 'reduced impact' will simply be for naught as unless entire populations collectively reduce the impact there isn't going to be a difference. This one person at a time succeeds only in reducing one's 'guilt' for being brought into existence as a human.

Why not just keep a job so you can live off grid comfortably? You don't have to eat deer heads to feel like you're saving the planet.

im telling you now the hippies had it right in the 60's

Why is it the natives in Brazil living off the grid is called degrading names such as uncivilized and barbaric, but North Americans living off the grid is called by all sort of nice fancy names like eco friendly, low carbon footprint......

Yes living off the grid with absolutely no knowledge of survival skills in the wilderness. FAIL! You can live off the grid by having a solar passive house that collects rain water, grey water systems, grows their own food, greenhouse to grow food, etc. This is produced by MTV so it probably has to be extreme and entertaining and dramatic. Please show a successful and easy way of living off the grid. Human beings need social interactions to survive. Not by isolating ourselves.

this was done many years ago. why do this now?

being on an MTV show is off the grid ? bitch please.

@marysunshine1990 I agree. Off the grid living is frowned upon by a lot of people, but it is the way we used to live. With nature (or God, if you're Christian). Society has just become such a boring place: you go to school, you go to college and university and get degrees, then work (probably in an office) for the rest of your life. And cities are so polluted and disgusting that I don't see how some people can bear to live in them! I hope more people try off the grid living. :)
The whole entire purpose of this show is to make people think off-grid living is 1.) all about "reducing your carbon footprint," as that is a new modern-day mantra they're busy shoving down our throats. Wrong. It's about freedom from corporate/govt control, reconnecting w/nature and depending on God instead of the elite. 2.) to make the populace think living off-grid means living uncivilized, like it's so impossibly difficult. Wrong again. Lots of off-gridders have technology and refinement.

I didn't know they had homeless people in Middle Earth. Now, go back to your tent and take off your clothes...
