In this tutorial I show how you can model a high polygon tire tread in Maya... it's 5 videos goin' from poly modeling over a simple UV layout and finally taking a bump map to put it on the tire.

Any comments or critiques are very welcome!

  • Hi, I'm having a problem when selecting all the inside edges to make the bridge, when I double click on 1 inside edge it selects all the inside edges plus some edges inside of the tire too, is there an option that I need to change? also another question that you may know the answer, where is the option to when selecting multiple vertices, for example, only select the ones in front and don't select the ones in the back?

    Hi,

    so I can't tell you why your edgeloop selection does not work as it should be without looking at your scene... I would check that out if you send me your maya scene file... just send it to pilz@t-online.de and I'll take a look at it when I have the time :-)

  • I'm having problems by doing the bridge with 2 tires....

    It shows up //Error: Command polyBridgeEdge failed. Open Script Editor for details.

    What does that mean??

    Hi,

    so if you open the script editor what does it say? There could be different reasons for the error.

    Make sure the two tire parts are combined.... make sure that the two border edges have exactly the same amount of edges.

    If that doesn't help just send me your maya scene file (my email: pilz@t-online.de ) and I'll try to find out where the problem is.

    polyBridgeEdge -ch 0 -divisions 2 -twist 0 -taper 1 -curveType 0 -smoothingAngle 30;

  • I made a tank, I made the treads of the tank the long way. If I use the Bend technique how do I make it like a trianglar shape tank tread wheel? Similar to a wall-e robots tread.

  • you go edit mesh > bridge

    you can go to polygons shelf > bridgeXD
