Esperanza Pallana, who writes the urban farming blog Pluck and Feather, says that a chicken makes the transition to old hen after about three years. Old hens don't make for good fryers, but they are perfect for stewing and soups.

  • its pretty awkward that she's holding the hen like a pet.. and talking about eating it in soup

  • "Now, if you're just taking a dull knife and hacking away at the neck of your old chicken? And if you're letting it run around the room getting blood all over your counter-tops? You're doing it all wrong."

  • If you are holding your 3 years old hen in your arms, which provided you with hundreds of dozens of eggs, and now is due for retirement, but you sentence it to death, on camera! .... YOU ARE DOING IT ALL WRONG!

  • What is wrong with chow? Doritos Consomme, Old Hen, what next? this is turning into a freak show! lol

  • i can't believe that you actually held the hen in your arms, and talked about how she would taste!

  • @sk8tafrnk LOL

  • @GAQ01 I'd rather just drop the live chicken in a large drum of boiling water.

  • @Petahx3 I love eating animals.

Especially if I am able to talk to the 6 year old boy who raised it so I am able to learn the animal's nickname before I start eating it.

  • Dear, prissy little peta sucking vegetarian. she's raising it as food it's not like she took the family dog out behind the shed and making fido sloppy joe's. the chicken got a better life and less painful death then the egg laying hens in cages, the broiler hens for meat, or even the poor "free range" chickens. kudos to this chick for being responsible about what she eats.

    a sane vegetarian

  • Good vid's but to short.

  • I think I just became a vegetarian

  • @BISlover544 i am not trying to make drama, i was posting my opinion THAT'S WHAT COMMENTS ARE FOR. and my reply to you is, "suck me off". is that drama, or are you going to perform :) *drop trou"
