Saxophonist Damian Nisenson put together a great trio for a show at the Cheval Blanc on Ontario St. near St. Hubert, Montreal, on June 23, 2009. The show was part of the L'Off Festival de Jazz, a fringe festival that takes place a week before the main Montreal International Jazz Festival. One highlight of the evening was percussionist Moise Yawo Matey, helping interweave African polyrythms, funky sounds and free jazz. The show proved the point made by the International Jazz Festival that "tout peut-être du jazz" or "any music can be adapted to jazz." Alex Bellegarde did a super job on bass.
