~ COUNTRY COMFORT ~ "Waimanalo Blues"

This song falls in the catagory of "contemporary Hawaiian music". That is, it is not traditional Hawaiian music. Traditional Hawaiian music is mostly heard at tourists spots. Contemporary Hawaiian music includes social commentary. This particular song is the way many Hawaiians feel about their land being bought and developed for commercialism with hotels littering their island. Native Hawaiians feel very sad in their hearts about the dilution of their culture that is near extinction. Through song many express the hopelessness. By the way, traditional Hawaiian music is great, too, and it`s not Don Ho.

  • On days like today (east coast) I wish I was still there..........

  • I lived in Hawaii in the mid 70's and Country Comfort, along with Cecelio and Kapono, were local stars of the islands. Their music was everywhere on the islands and played a lot on the radio. I guess you really have to have lived there at that time to appreciate their style. It's so nice to be able to come here to listen to them when I want. Those old vinyls don't play so well these days!.

  • I lived on Oahu, 2 blocks from Waikiki Beach in 1976, love this song and I still have the album to boot! I lived with my bro and he still lives there, so I can still come visit!

  • I was born in 83, this song makes me homesick for something I never really had but I know existed for my father's generation

  • I lived in Hawaii nei from 1968 to 1977. i love this song, as i love Hawaii. Mahalo nui loa.

  • I lived on Oahu 16 years, left in 1989. I always loved this Hawaiian Folk Song, mahalo.

  • Mahalo for posting...great memories for me, I'm homesick...

  • This is where you live. And it is soooo beautiful...Many Blessings...
