Elwha River - Restoration Project - Last Dam Summer

As the removal of the dams continues I captured the status of the demolition on September 21, 2011. The dam removal started on September 15, 2011.
This video shows images of the dams before they were taken down. Next you can see the actual removal of the dams. The video includes the Elwha Bridge with the images of the spawning chinook. A few miles past the Elwha Bridge there is the mouth of the Mighty Elwha with the views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, the Vancouver Island and the Olympic Mountains.
Elwha River Restoration Project is the biggest project of this kind in the U.S.

So much in and around the rivers. One never knows until one actually sees it. Very interesting video. Beautiful landscape tho - despite the mechanized intrusions...!

@WBShepherd Thank you. Those "mechanized intrusions" are intended to bring the salmon run back up the river. This is only the beginning of the project.

@OrcaTrail Oh I see. That's cool then. I thought maybe "they" were taking away from the land, rather than building it up. Thats even way cooler - perhaps one day you'll post a video of salmon jumping up stream. ;-) Thanks.
