Vibrant Gujarat - Bursting the Development Bubble

What is the reality behind Narendra Modi's much hyped Vibrant Gujarat? Let us take a walk down the dark lanes of Gujarat - where people die of poverty - when Modi appease Tata by giving away crores of rupees as soft loan!

When talking of development, we have to start from the very basic question - what is development? How can we measure it? What indicators are used to measure development? And at last find where Gujarat is w.r.t. those indicators?

According to Modi, FDI is the one and only criterion for measuring development. While economic growth is one factor of development, there are many other parameters to consider. The reality is that even in economic growth Gujarat is behind many other states.

Now the question: How to measure development - There are three broad terms coming into picture, i.e., Human Development Index, Social Development Index, Economic Growth. (Each of these can be further explored in detail, but is out of scope of this brief presentation. But we would urge the viewer to explore on your own, each of these factors.).
