By just reading the autobiography of the great Chi-Sound record producer, Carl Davis Sr., who produced and worked with many hits with The Dells, he mentioned all of the great members and their great professionalism and talent! The book hastened me to go back in time to re-live the great sounds they made together........thank you for reminding me again in this interview!

No disrespect to the late, Great Johnny Carter, when he says "I hate a quitter"
(referring to Johnny Funches ) is not what it seems to be....
Johnny had a young famliy and simply needed the money very badly, probably
similar to "Dresser" in the movie, and simply had to make some serious money
to help his family.
These fella's are 5 of the greatest singers/performers in music history.

I love the Temptations and Eddie Kendricks (my favs), but I have to say that the Dells are my 2nd favorite and Johnnie definitely ranks with Eddie as one of the all time best male falsetto singers there are. Johnnie's voice had such feeling to it..he will be missed. Also I like that they stayed together. That shows you that not only were they great singers but great men.

He is blood 2 me. Uncle Johnny was absolutely sharp and still singing to his last day. I was impressed with how he handled the end; that his only complaints was: trouble swallowing and he hated needles with a passion. He was joking and stll sing to the last day. He had a very sharp memory and even treated us to the song "Golden Teardrops" ( he wrote) and other songs while a member ot The Flamingos. Military gave him a 21gun solute (he was a veteran).Uncle I will always always love U.Sleep well.
