  • We really lost a legend today in Johnnie Carter. He was the heart and soul of The Dells. My Condolences to his family and friends, and his musical family The Dells. Johnnie Carter will forever be missed. God Bless them in their time of loss. Johnnie was one of the greatest tenors of our times and he will forever be remembered.

    R.I.P. Mr. Carter

    T.L. Harris

  • He is blood 2 me. Uncle Johnny was absolutely sharp and still singing to his last day. I was impressed with how he handled the end; that his only complaints was: trouble swallowing and he hated needles with a passion. He was joking and stll sing to the last day. He had a very sharp memory and even treated us to the song "Golden Teardrops" ( he wrote) and other songs while a member ot The Flamingos. Military gave him a 21gun solute (he was a veteran).Uncle I will always always love U.Sleep well.

  • The Dells are one of the greatest vocal groups of ALL time and they are truely UNSUNG!!

R.I.P. Johnny Carter. There will never be another vocal group lik ethe Dells!!!

  • The Dells are one of the greatest groups of ALL TIME! I love this group.

  • That damn Marvin can send you outta here with that voice of his!! Black and rough, but angelic and healing at the same time. Love 'em all. And my dear Mr. Carter, you just R.I.P. on my brother. Damn I'm going to miss you.

  • @KassanovaBrowne Amen.

  • By just reading the autobiography of the great Chi-Sound record producer, Carl Davis Sr., who produced and worked with many hits with The Dells, he mentioned all of the great members and their great professionalism and talent! The book hastened me to go back in time to re-live the great sounds they made together........thank you for reminding me again in this interview!

  • No disrespect to the late, Great Johnny Carter, when he says "I hate a quitter"

(referring to Johnny Funches ) is not what it seems to be....

Johnny had a young famliy and simply needed the money very badly, probably

similar to "Dresser" in the movie, and simply had to make some serious money

    to help his family.

These fella's are 5 of the greatest singers/performers in music history.

  • I love the Temptations and Eddie Kendricks (my favs), but I have to say that the Dells are my 2nd favorite and Johnnie definitely ranks with Eddie as one of the all time best male falsetto singers there are. Johnnie's voice had such feeling to it..he will be missed. Also I like that they stayed together. That shows you that not only were they great singers but great men.

  • The Cd is a must have!!! Produced by Gamble & Huff Don't Sleep!!

  • the best group from my teen yrs.

and i still lay in bed at my age (63) listening to stay

    in my corner.....

so sorry to hear we lost johnnie carter....

the dells r 4-ever.....in my heart
