  • Well that kid doesn't look autistic to me. he is very interactive and talks way better that autistic kids at 3 yeard old talk. I believe that my son has some sensory issues, and I was wondering how can i get more info about floortime therapy. sound very helfull for delayed children

When you meet a child on the spectrum, you have just met one child on the spectrum. The autism spectrum is pretty wide and varied. I suggest you have your child do the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS), just to rule a spectrum disorder out. It does not hurt to know for sure.

DIR Floortime, done intensively, can make a huge difference in a child. Find an OT who is trained in DIR, it really helps.

  • Thanks, that is our Play Project DIR Floortime Coach. She helps us tremendously.

  • @arwen9985 Dr. Richard Solomon of PLAY Project (floortime) is doing a study of families in the P.P. program with $1.8 million funding from the National Institute of Mental Health. It's true that it is more difficult to get specific data on a relationship based approach - can't count how many times the child can identify a card with an apple; but what is more important? A relationship where you inspire a child to want to share that apple with a person? Or pointing to the picture of an apple?

  • @arwen9985

It always comes down to data. That is why families are able to get financial support to pay for ABA. ABA gives great data. Floortime establishes and nurtures the aspects of socialization that are not measurable. With true floortime, you can see the bond develop between two people. Its not about being able to expressively identify a number of picture cards. It is about relationships.

  • I have read research on floortime...the data shown in these research seem shady, although data and authors conducting these research say result say it helps children with autism (which it may) really understanding and analyzing the data point that are given suggest otherwise.

  • Say this with me...ABA

well i didi do the test and the result was that my son isn't really showing serious signs of autism just some minor sensory issues. but i truely feel that DIR floortime can help my son, i heard that it could be done at home, like I could learn how and do it myself. what do u think I should do. and do u really think that some kids could show some sensory prob and not have autism as they have good eye contact and interaction.

    I really appreciate ur response.

  • Hello,

My name is Casey Burgess. I work as an autism consultant , and teach parents and professionals about autism and effective strategies. I am putting together some workshops in my somewhat remote city, and came across your videos. Your video using floortime / slurping soup is wonderful, and I was wondering if you would give me permission to use it and the balancing videos in workshops for parents.

    Please let me know!
