  • Great plan. I love it. But there is one problem, what about the people who live out in Howick?

  • @celleo89 We want to hear from you. Best way to tell us what you think is by visiting our website and following the links to the Auckland Plan section. Public transport is definitely a key theme.

  • @truekiwijoker agreed

  • Auckland please keep electing Mr. Brown and stop giving NZ National party governments. It is vital for all of NZ that Auckland gets its commuter rail network sorted out and starts becoming a proper city instead of the giant suburb it's let itself become. He's the first mayor you've had since Dove Myer who isn't a clueless moron.

  • @ThePloverDr Auckland get the Olympics?! you're joking right! Auckland's far too small and why would it won a bid over the usual suspects?

  • so does this mean we are on our way to bidding for the Olympics..! Auckland Plan released today.. Quiet cool good on you Auckland

  • Improving the infrastructure is a good idea ! But I really wonder why he was talking about 2040? In today's high tech world, construction/linking of railway lines does not take 30 years, it should take max 2-3 years for a metro train project around Auckland metropolitan region. In respect India's New Delhi is much better. Delhi's population is 10 times that of Auckland and its area is almost twice as Auckland region (not city). We finished constructing an extensive Metro network in just 3 years.

  • I love that Auckland *finally* has a mayor with the courage to realise a grand-scale vision for the city.

My only concern with the North Shore Rail link is that it completely bypasses the existing commercial centers, which are already clogged with traffic, and already have the population to sustain a profitable train line. (Devonport, Takapuna, Milford, Browns Bay.)

It's fine to project growth around the route which hugs the Northern Motorway, but serve the existing population dense areas first.
