The Cistercian Trappist monks of New Clairvaux are reconstructing a medieval Spanish chapter house, Santa Maria De Ovila, using 800-year-old stones brought to California by William Randolph Hearst. When completed the Chapter House will be open to the public. The Maestro visited the monastery on Nov. 12, 2009, to see the artisans at work and to do a painting of the unfinished exterior.
