On Saturday 2nd May 2009, unrebuilt Battle of Britain Bulleid 4-6-2 Pacific No. 34067 "Tangmere" worked Past Time Rail's 'The Dorset Coast Express' Railtour from London Victoria to Swanage, the first steam hauled direct train from London to Swanage in over 40 years! The Spam Can departed Victoria at 08:05 and was routed via Stewarts Lane (where it passed fellow Bulleid Pacific No. 35028 "Clan Line"!), Clapham Junction, Richmond, Chertsey and Woking to reach Winchfield, where it took on water. After the water stop, which gave those on board to stretch their legs and/or take photos, Tangmere departed for Swanage, travelling via Basingstoke, Southamtpon and Wareham. Shortly after departing from Wareham, 34067 diverged down the Swanage Branch, towards Furzebrook, at Worgret Junction. The line between Worgret Jn and Furzebrook was used by LPG trains until a couple of years ago, and since the end of these trains, the section of line has remained little used. After passing Furzebrook, Tangmere reached Norden, Corfe Castle (where she passed fellow Spam Can 34070 "Manston"!) and finally, Swanage. A little while after arriving, 37706 departed Swanage with the Railtour stock and Tangmere along with her support coach, stabled in a siding.

Swanage Railway services were worked by 34070 Manston and a 4-car DMU.

Visiting BR Blue 33/1 No. 33103 "Swordfish" worked the Railtour ECS into Swanage, with 37706 on the other end ready for the return to London. The route back to London from Swanage was as per the outward, except it was worked by 37706, as Tangmere was staying in Dorset to work the return of 'The Royal Wessex' on Monday 4th May. A highlight of the return, was the brief stop near Lymington Junction, near Brockenhurst, where class 421 3-CIG No. 1497 passed us and at Brockenhurst station, both the 37 and the Slammer were running parallel with each other! Arrival back at Victoria was later than expected, caused by problems with 37706.
