I adore Aretha, she is unquestionably a legend and I have almost all her work. This is a beautiful song, yet........ When I compare this version to Gladys Knight's later interpretation in 1977, I have to conclude that Gladys's softer, subtler rendition is the more poignant. Normally, Aretha's soaring passion holds me immediately, but I think Gladys got it right with this one. Give Gladys a listen, and make up your own mind.

If you have the capability of sending the mp3 format, i would greatly appreciate it. I actually have this LP on wax but since this was my favorite song on the album, I played it to death and it now has that rice crispy sound affect.. My email is the name at the top @ yahoo.
