Pearson College Choir - One World 2011

Songs performed by the choir of Lester B. Pearson College, the United World College of the Pacific, at One World 2011. Royal Theatre, Victoria, BC, Canada, 19 March 2011.

From the One World programme:
"Pearson College Choir has long been an instrument and illustration of the United World Colleges' mission to promote international and intercultural understanding and cooperation. The choir includes well over a hundred students from a huge range of cultural, linguistic and religious backgrounds, and our repertoire reflects this diversity. Today's performance will begin with a medley of three well-known African folk songs: Betelehemu from Nigeria, Bunawa from Liberia, and Siyahamba from South Africa. It will be followed by a medley of two Korean minyo [folk songs]. The first, Arirang, is the country's most celebrated traditional minyo, a lyrical piece evoking a legendary mountain pass. It is followed by Gyeongbokjung Taryeong, which is the name of an opulent fourteen-century palace in Seoul. The song is a satirical representation of resentment against the king's extravagance."
