On February 19, 2009, scholars, community leaders and workers from throughout California joined in solidarity for press conferences in four cities in the state. The press events discussed a study released that day by the Center for American Progress (CAP) linking unions to positive impacts on the economy. According to the study, the Employee Free Choice Act holds the promise of boosting unionization rates and improving the economic standing and workplace conditions for millions of American workers.
In this video from the Sacramento press conference, Chris Benner, Professor of Regional and Community Economic Development at the University of California, Davis, speaks of the CAP report, the importance of unions and the importance of the Employee Free Choice Act.
Press conferences were coordinated by SEIUs Change That Works campaign.
