The elevator to the observation deck on the 69th floor is the fastest elevator in the world, and the only elevator I know of with a speedometer! The speed is shown in meters per minute, and you can see by the speed of the floors going by that it is VERY fast. On the way down, the elevator lets you out in the midst of an enormous mall which you have to walk through to leave. Very smart!

  • Elevators, like high-speed trains, may operate at very high speeds without adverse physical effects so long as acceleration and deceleration are graceful, smooth, and not too quick.

  • @Organgrinder1010 Indeed, this is an accurate description of riding in this elevator! In fact, the acceleration and deceleration are so well planned that there is no sense of movement at all! Quite a feat, considering how fast the thing goes. The only indication of movement is the pressure change in your ears!

  • @virginiaorganbuilder Almost disappointing for someone wanting a little tickle in the tummy. TGV's are also so smooth the sensation of speed is difficult to appreciate other than the constantly-changing scenery!
