One of my all time favorite scenes from one of my all time favorite movies. What he says to his father is something we all can relate to.

  • The best speech on a movie full of great speeches. The response given by Sidney is simply perfect.

Its just incredible what a great movie this is, and they didn't spent a buck doing it, using the same background for almost all of the movie

  • People say this movie is dated, but I disagree. On one level it is a history lesson, to tell us how far we have come. But on another level it is timeless, telling us what really matters. One of my favorite films of all time. It never relied on anything other than three of the best actors in history and a wonderful message.

  • he told his dad to shut up. he confronted his dad. I was on the edge of my seat after he said that. good acting

  • poor acting.

  • 3:28 and on are the best part of the movie. He tells his father that he sees himself as a colored man and he sees himself as a man. This is great! Its a complete rejection of Progresivism. His father can be seen as Jesse Jackson and the other fools who live their lives as black men and women. Its a sad pathetic bigoted life.

  • I have loved this movie since I was a child. But not until now as a gay adult do I truly understand every emotional depth these writers, producers, directors, stage hands, had to offer me in this movie. This is the power of cinema. In the 1960's they gave courage to a generation not even born yet. Thank you.

  • Baby boomer BS

  • I've made the same point many times! My mother telling me that I owe her my life because she raised me. Tch. It's disgusting. You owe your parents the same amount of love they give you. Honour and pride and bigoted rules are not love. This speech will always be relevant when we have discrimination.

  • This is so relevant right now with the gay marriage debate. Its the interracial marriage of today. Its exactly the same thing.

  • What do we see? The man that has been created in God's image or the color of their skin? Some people can either wrongfully hate that person for their color, they can ignore such things as insignificant because we are one body in the eyes of God (ME!!), or they can exploit them for the means of padding racial ratio numbers to overcome some internal guilt or titillate the World's definition of their false secular sense of "social justice."

I see them as the man. Thank you Mr. Poitier.

  • Too many people identify themselves by the color of their skin
