I would have appreciated more info on which ones work best, are easiest to use, etc. I have the Lansky box set and once you learn how to use it, it's a breeze and renders knives scary sharp. For quick work I like the Smiths Pocket pal and its cousin with the yellow body and rubber feet. Smith's sharpeners seem more aggressive to me, you can set a new edge in no time.
And if you cringe at knives in the dirt: Some of us use 'em in the dirt every day. That's life, or it can be.

I saw you posted that you've never used a spyderco sharpmaker. You should definitely try one or review one. It's definitely the best easy to use sharpener and it can put a sweet edge on any size knife(better than any pull-through, but you can still use the pull-through for fixing nicks in the edge faster, then hit it on the sharpmaker). Also dmt and lansky make dual grit folding diamond sharpeners that are nice and compact and work really well.p.s. stab the dirt with the benchmade! >:D Muhaha

@airsoftguy85rocks
not always
For shovels, axes, etc they are fine and for a fast edge in an emergency they can't be beat
