When Sting embarked on his solo career, he didn't throw his tenure with the Police out the window; on this live double album from his Dream of the Blue Turtles tour, he reworks some odd selections from his old band's catalog in the expansive, jazz-inflected style of his new crew (which included saxophonist Branford Marsalis). These performances emphasize showmanship (solos, backup singers, and all) and they've got lots of crowd-pleasing moments, like the overwhelming swell of "I Burn for You" and a Caribbean clap-along on a medley of "One World" and "Love Is the Seventh Wave." But Sting's raw-steak voice has been affected by his band, too, and his phrasing on the quieter torch songs draws cleverly on jazz traditions.

  • I have a question...is that John Oats in the background between 2:35 and 2:45?

  • @davmaki to tell you the truth I do not know if it is he ... very similar its true ... but I looked in the movise and search on the net also and I did not found any info about that :-))

  • @gordonmatthewsumner Thanks for looking! Would have been odd to see him in the background. Thanks for post these videos. Haven't watched this in years and it's a great treat to revisit this movie! Especially at work to get my work done faster!:)

  • @davmaki nevermind ... I will put the whole movie soon on the net. Watch my streamline, add me as a friend or subscribe, you will be informed ... I watch also at my job almost everyday, it is a good booster for everything :-)))

I am gonna see him this Saturday in Budapest, hopefully make some videos also, if I can smuggle my cam inside :-))))

  • Sting is one of my favourite of all favourite musicians and I remember both this video and the Dream of the Blue Turtles tour like it was yesterday.

  • @Crom2000 I couldn't disagree more. Listen to Branford's soprano sax solo. "Amazing" isn't even the word for it. Would love to hear a version in which Andy and Branford both solo on this tune.

  • Love these rehearsal takes from the movie ........ Thanks for posting

  • @Crom2000 Nothing to add from my side... Thumbs up! May You Be With The Force!

  • This version is not to bad I can handle the watered down version of Driven to Tears.. Until it hits the jazz bit.. Then this version I am afraid lives up to its title and DRIVES ME TO TEARS.. I bet it does Andy Summers and Stuart Coupland as well.. Man, sorry Sting solo but Long live the Police!

  • Qu'est-ce que ça groove !

    Excellent !...

  • I prefer the non-muzak version.

  • acordes de so what miles davis

  • some of the best drum work ever~

  • I have no words, I think that there are no bad songs by Sting. Because feed the audience, this is something brilliant and golden. Which is embodied in music history. For us, this is how God's light, which lit the way. Thank you New Year's Eve, for what you do for us.

  • Viendo el video, lo tengo original en VHS, siento tristeza por el teclado que murió por sobredodis...Gran perdida....muy buenos músicos, en ese tiempo Winston marsallis...
