Always breaking my heart
Word and Music by Per Gessle

En, två, tre
Is this what you want?
Every finger points at me
I'm eating your words
But are they really here for me?
I've tasted before
You crashed at my door
To bring some hot stuff baby

So when you need me in the middle of the night
I won't be there cos you're always breaking my heart
You're always breaking my heart
You always tear it apart
Yeah Yeah Yeah

So take off your shades
Go get down on your knees and pray
But no powers from heaven
Could ever take the darkness away
My love rise on laughing mind
Love talks to the roses
But you bring 'em bad bad weather
(bad bad weather)

And when you call me in the middle of the night
(of the night)
there's no one there cos you're always breaking my heart
You're always breaking my heart
You always tear it apart
Yeah Oh Yeah

Reach out a hand to hold
Ain't it sad when the distance grows
Two hearts cling to their fates
Hurry hurry don't believe
But I don't worry anymore...

So when you need me in the middle of the night
(of the night)
I won't be there cos you're always breaking my heart
You're always breaking my heart
You always tear it apart
Oh Yeah

You're always breaking my heart
You're always breaking my heart
You always tear it apart
Yeah Oh Yeah

  • Absolutely wonderful song! When was this recorded?

  • @Lemourios originally it was recorde in 1996 to Gessle's solo album "The World According to Gessle", that was re-released in 2008. It is also available on "The RoxBox 86-06 [disc 3]" released in spring 2006.

  • @zeppelyyn Thanks a lot!!

  • @Lemourios you're welcome

  • Sorry to break it for some of you but Belinda's version is way better!

  • As much as I love Roxette, the Belinda Carlisle version is ultimately better. Maybe because Per had time to straighten out the lyrics which frankly in this version of the song don't really gel. In Belinda's version, they make more sense and consequently the song is stronger and more cohesive.

Granted this is a demo and a good one at that. It's difficult to judge what the final result would have been as the song was still a work in progress......

  • @kisscatastrophe Really? I didn't know that, I know she worked with Per in the studio though. I have a picture of them together in the studio. If so, that's terrible that they didn't let your develop it. I noticed it didn't seem quite finished.

  • @jana000005 I think Belinda's version is good, just not as developed.

  • Köszönöm.

  • @kisscatastrophe I never remember reading that lol. I prefer her version though.

  • Belinda wasn't happy with her version either, the label released it before it was even finished, it features only demo vocals and she wasn't even sure the song was right for the album she was working on. she's since renounced the entire album and doesn't perform anything from it. she considers her upcoming pop/rock album to be the proper follow up to her 1993 album "Real", completely ignoring 1996's "A Woman And A Man" and not counting her one-off french album, 2007's "Voila"
