This race is unique to us because the course area is stunning. These images may or may not be on the NCARS #3 20120 course, but they do represent the area. Lake James is just West of Morganton, NC, and one good access road is SR181. The water is spectacular, and makes for great paddling (even in the dark.) The single-track extends from Wilsons Creek to Grandfather Mountain, especially when you add fire roads and gravel uphills. The winning teams will need to LOVE climbing. The foot trails are not well used, and the topography combines stunning rocky summits, cliffs, ridgelines and waterfalls, endless creek crossings, and opportunities to bushwhack. Frankly, we think this is the best area in the Southeast for an adventure race. As Gerry says in the video, "We pity the fools who try." Our sincere hope is that you have fun and work hard. See you on the trails.
