Excerpts from Hope in a Changing Climate (http://www.open.edu/openlearn/whats-o...)

Part I: Loess Plateau, China - http://youtu.be/sK8JNXHcBMA
Part II: Ethiopia - http://youtu.be/mbEM6DCTK3Y
Part III: Rwanda - http://youtu.be/BVxVC7PuEL8

Once the scene of devastating droughts in 1984, a few visionaries in Ethiopia have used Agroecological Natural Technology Solutions and Permaculture Design principles to begin bringing areas of arid land back to productivity and ecological balance.

Restoring the huge vast degradaded landscape of Ethiopia... critical for the entire region to support life. The impact is regional, national, and international.

We can rehabilitate damaged ecosystems. We can transfer technology and capital to empower the local people to restore their own environment to ensure food security for people who are chronically hungry, while at the same time sequestering carbon, reducing biodiversity loss, mitigate against flooding, drought and famine. This can be done on a global scale.

We can do this with the simple application of Agricultural Natural Technology Solutions and Permaculture Design principles, such as earthworks, water harvesting, soil building, creating biodiversity.

Anybody can take a Permaculture Design Course and learn how to do this in their local area or internationally. There are over 1,000 such courses taught all over the world each year. You can find one here: http://permacultureglobal.com/users or take one online: http://permaculturevisions.com

It is time to solve hunger worldwide, through creating local food abundance.... Anyone can do it, once you learn how.

(Thank you Environmental Education Media Project & Dr. John D. Liu)

Awesome stuff, just sad that "human induced climate change" is blamed for all of this stuff, politics must always be injected. Note when the crisis began in 1984 they were still preaching "global cooling" on the nightly news. You can see real human induced climate change here, cut down all the forests, you get deserts, let the forest return you get fertility. THAT IS THE CLIMATE CHANGE WE NEED TO BE WORKING ON, not the gas every mammal, bird, reptile and amphibian exhales.

the climate-change issue blatantly includes such things as chemical farming and deforestation being big problems. the more the landscape is changed, not just by but especially with urbanisation, the more the weather is made chaotic because it messes up many microclimates. it makes everything chaotic. people go out of harmony with nature, they do stupider things, the more dumb things get the more stupid is around, the less good influences there are, & so it goes on.

Because more people care about celebrities than real issues. Pathetic, isn't it?

Not necessarily. In fact if they are managed properly, adding goats and other livestock can actually speed up the process of healing the land.
