Here, Ally demonstrates the correct way to propel a kayak forward while minimizing torque. As seen in this clip, the kayak does NOT swing dramatically from side to side as it would if a large amount of torque were present. Ally is able to minimize torque by decreasing "r" (the horizontal distance from the blade of the paddle to the center of the boat) and "θ" (the angle between the handle of the paddle and the edge of the boat as the paddle enters the water).
