lmfao! i just can`t get over how ppl are so offended today, over sid`s swastika shirt, as if sid was some kind of nazi, pleaseeeeeeee!!!! lol, he wore that shirt to shock ppl, it was 1978 for god`s sakes, that was very shocking then. he also had a red shirt with a hammer and sicle he wore as well, not because he was a communist, but because he was making a statement. for ppl who comment on here thinking they are punk rock, you sure haven`t a clue as to what the punk movement was even about.

he wore it to shock and too defuse the meaning he states that in an interview. but hte hammer and sickle he never wore tha was used in the film sid and nancy because the producers thought a swastika would be too offensive.

sid wore the swastika to defuse the meaning what you have to remember the swastika was used before the nazis as a sign of peace but the nazis stole it and gave it a new meaning and thats what sid was trying to do he wasnt a nazi at all he just wanted to give it a new meaning its like ppl thought swearing was offensive but the more you hear it the more diluted and less offensive it becomes sid was trying to do the same

@sidchaos1988 i like that. the idea that sid used a swastika in order to DEFUSE the meaning of the symbol. this is what people don't get, i guess. the idea that symbols could be used in an ironic way in order to defuse their (perceived) meaning. today, in our postmodern age, we shouldn't take symbols for what "they are." rather, when we encounter a symbol, we should inquire as to whether it is being used in an ironic way. symbols used in an ironic fashion are much more common than we think.
