  • who cares, he is great....

i meant can you even play at least something close to what he plays.

  • I think he is a good player, but he does not bring anything new to the table. I think all these smooth jazz saxophonist need to take more risk and get a little more experimental.

  • @saxmays wtf does that even mean?

  • What i like the most about Eric Darius is the ammount of energy he brings in his music and alot of players now adays dont have that much feeling and (this may just be me) they are mostly technical. The more of i listen to people like Eric Darius, the more energy im noticing im getting out of my playing.

  • I have mixed feelings about these comments.

Yes he is a good player, however you can say the same about alot of saxophonists so i believe the term " they are a good player" is overused so dont try and blow that off as a thing of you looking at both view points.

However i agree that smooth jazz saxophonists need to get more creative and think outside the box a little and Eric Darius is doing that if you truly pay attention to what he is playing.

  • I'd like to hear a little more harmonic diversity.

  • I disagree with some of the comments. He is fresh and talented and brings a lot to the table. For the younger crowd he is a new generation of Sax. They want to see that enthusiasum, not someone standing there like the Lawrence Welk Show.

Some of these comments sound like they may be from old farts...lol. You know I'm right !

  • @saxmays - I agree. many of the hit young smooth jazz saxophonists (with the exception of jessy j) have not really brought anything original to the world of smooth jazz. They are just "cookie cut" from many of the other smooth jazz greats. For example eric darius has a good sound, but he is too much of a mix of gerald albright, kirk whalum, and maybe everette harp (notice he probably listened to these guys a lot, but didn't even mention them as influences even though they prob are influences).

  • @saxmays lol

  • the movement is SO distracting OMG. Yeah, he's a young cat, come to the Northwest and hear our 18 years olds shred him.

  • Great music! Simply, the best definition for ''smooth jazz''. The sound of the saxophone is just great, the rythm is extremelly catchy and the passion he plays with cannot be described. Beatiful!
