Hell, if a guy IS gay, most guys probably wouldn't say these things to him unless you're friends, and if you're friends, it's assumed that these statements are therefore lighthearted in nature, again for comic effect. So in either case, whether the player-controlled character is gay or straight, the tone exudes a certain comfortability—not condescension—which is to be expected given the strong bonds, the camaraderie, that military personnel often form.
People are such pansies, man. >.<

I don't understand why anyone would get all butt-hurt (is it wrong for me to appreciate the pun? lol) about this. That's how straight guys talk to each other. It's just like women calling each other whores, bitches, skanks, etc. Straight guys call each other fags and imply our comrades are homosexuals; we know they're not actually gay, thus it's done jokingly.
