Eyes wide open - yes! But not on your own? I visited Freetown for three weeks (lived with a local Red Cross official) and had no problems. I went right through the slums and the only incident was a woman complaining about me taking pictures of some children because of personal and copyright laws :D So much for "simple minded" ...

More than 700.000. It's because many fled the rural areas during the civil war and came to Freetown which soon got overcrowded. But it's getting better recently.

@cbrhawk1 they are not simple minded and friendly. Some are friendly if they know you... and others are friendly so they can scam you. Go with your eyes wide open, and not on your own... ever!

@kmed232 The United States has some very organized cities, and they're even more shameful.
I yearn to visit a third world country like this because I'm sure people are simple minded and friendly. I don't care if I have to take a dump in a river when I have to go.
