@JLP4444 Yes, you are propably right here. There are quite a lot of tecnical issues to pay attention to in skate skiing. As long as it is relaxed, some minor "issues" are not that important. Just try to do it as Thomas Alsgaard used to do it - so easy and calm but yet so fast. The best skate skier ever!

@Hiillosmakkara1 Trying to completely eliminate upper body rotation is a "New Skate" idea that not many people subscribe to anymore (in a dogmatic way). (And look at any video of World Cup skiers doing offset skate and there's always some rotation.)
I would say the more notable "mistake" of the teacher is his weight is a bit back--i.e., he has that sitting down sort of look to his posture and skating movements are consequently not as smooth as they could be.

@Petrlyzec Yes - I'll try to explain. Focus (among other things, for sure) should be put on keeping your head steady, such, that head is kept still not rotating from side to side. This is, because the rotating head emphasises your upper body to follow the head rotation and upper body starts to rotate accordingly. Upper body rotation waste the energy - upper body movement should be only vertical to maximise the power transmission.

chicks skating looks funny
For teaching purposes the head should be straight and follows the trunk movements. Just remaining, we are talking basic teaching methods not high performance skiing technique. Teaching tools for beginners must be short, clear and simple. One of them is the head control, which is manageable easier then limbs or trunk control. Other tool is to teach a new movement in slow motion. Ski instructor must perform slowly. “Sitting back” here is clearly consequence of slow skiing performed for the purpose

In quadrupedal locomotion what skiing as all-limb locomotion is based on the trunk besides lateral flexion also rotates about its longitudinal axis. If this would not occur a skier applies limited power into double poling, and also the weight shift is unfinished. Less rotation occurs during V2 larger rotation during V1, all according to steepness and appropriate ski angulation. Less rotation means less muscle involved in the trunk work, and also indicates a lack of core body strength.

Basic mistake - swinging head.

@Hiillosmakkara1, I appreciate serious discussion. Could you specify what exercise you are talking about and what does mean the term "swinging head"? Also explain, please, why it is "basic mistake" and describe a correct position from biomechanical point of view. Thanks!
