Great song for surviving a breakup. Great vocal from the Silver Fox, just like "Most Beautiful Girl In the World."

Please bring back country music like this. The stuff on today's country radio is a joke and an insult to the real country artists of yesteryear!

I was with him the nite he set fire the the announcement. He and I were both batteling our demons . I still do at times. He was a friend and a great musician.. Thank for posting.

@kcope001 Actually, CR was a little fried that night, not quite himself. Many true country performers had been knocking themselves dead trying to make it in Country Music only to be snubbed in favor of artists ((JD, ONJ, et al) who were NOT country and just putting out a country album to help establish themselves. Those albums got promoted and so got airplay and so got awards.
Charlie Rich and many others hated the whole farce. So Charlie set fire to the John Denver announcement!

My favorite version. Thanks for putting it up. Takes me back a long ways.

@kleelaurie I grew up listening to Charlie's version of Life's Little Ups and Downs, and my daughter grew up with RVS's version, just an amazing song! I love this man and his entire body of work...very jealous that you were so close to him...

Charlie Rich... the coolest cat in country music.....ever.

The Silver Fox, classic country, pure gold. There won't be anymore,...like him. God bless you Charlie.
Great song in the country style of yore. Saludos desde México!

Someone please finish this thought... I read a Waylon bio where he described a deal at the CMAs where Charlie, as a presenter/ announcer opened a ballot declaring the either:
Male Vocalist of the year (John Denver)
or
Female Vocalist of the year (ONJ).
Either way as soon as he opened the envelope and saw who the winner was he whipped out his lihter and simultaneously set the announcement ablaze and announced the "winner". Needless to say CR was never again welcome as a presenter at the CMAs

Yes, he did do that. It was John Denver as Entertainer of the Year in 1975. It was his reaction at the perceived shift in country music circles toward a more "pop" oriented sound. Many people agreed with him.
