Personally, I love the new features. New mobs, items, blocks, enchantments-- it's all great!

The problem with new MC is the terrain generation. The element of exploration was what I loved the most about pre 1.8. The concept of classifying land into biomes is great, but today's biomes are too predictable, too generic. Sure, there's much more mountains, but the best feeling in MC was stumbling across a rare one. Ravines are another problem that I have with post 1.8.

Download a 1.7.3 jar, that's what I did. I played with it for about two weeks but then I got bored, and you'll probably do the same. What you're after is the nostalgia, and you'll get it. But once that nostalgia starts dissipating you realize how boring it was back in the day and you'll probably want to go back to the newer minecraft.
