Overall, they're worth the purchase. I pay about 2,000 Yen a month (roughly 20.00USD) and the only price difference I enounter is when I get spam texts from non-softbank users, when people call me after 7pm, or when I accidently get online.
Well, they have several plans. The one we picked up was "The White Plan". You get unlimited softbank to softbank text messaging and calling before 7pm (kind of the opposite in America).
You can use the internet and you get a lot of bonus features (i.e. Television). I could do a lot more with our cell phones if I knew more Japanese (i.e. buy items out of vending machines through our phones wallet mode).
