Thank you also, whorayful.I now understand.I am aware that one picture can say more than a thousand words but, sometimes a written explanation helps as well.Thank you all and a Happy Christmas
@paintycanjay Usually FCT is based on engine speed in diesels. The air moving into the cylinders only moves as fast as the atmosphere or the turbo pushes it. To get the maximum air in at high engine speeds the inlet valve is opened earlier so the incoming charge is already moving before the piston begins the down stroke, the vaccum created by the exiting exhaust gas during 'valve overlap' helps get the flow moving, that's the secret behind well designed headers by the way.
@Squarerig In simple terms the camshaft timing can be advanced or retarded relative to the crankshaft. Car makers usually call it VCT, or DVCT for twin cam motors. As Swiggityswagger correctly said, one cam timing position means the engine breathes best at only one speed range, the 'power/torque band', having Variable cam timing widens the power/torque band making the engine more efficient and flexible.
best design for mechanical engine to reduce emission.however the introduction of electronic engines with unit injectors solve the problem of emission. the software inside ecm will control the injection timing and duration by checking certain inputs like boost pressure, temp etc this will reduce emission,
@nch8 So I misspelled, is that really your problem with my comment? No, you must be a bearded little have nothing own nothing , property(land) socialist. Little basterd...go ride yor bike, I like my bike but I like to smoke up the air with my diesel also.
@sinclairopaline capitalism with an A not an O. Maybe if you pulled your finger out of your sister and learned to spell you might not have this problem.
check Porsche VarioCam system for a variable valve timing. engineers says is a lot much better, simpliest, less complex than hondas counterpart
