Robby Gordon and several members of his team headed north to Eldora Speedway on Wednesday afternoon for Gordon's debut in the Prelude to the Dream, an all-star charity racing event. With only one test session under his belt, Gordon hit the track in the Jim Beam dirt late-model prepped by Scott Bloomquist for two practice sessions on the half-mile track. Despite the tough competition from the seasoned dirt track veterans, Gordon qualified sixth and won his ten-lap heat, which resulted in an eighth place starting position for the main event.

After the drop of the green flag, the charge was on as Gordon made daring passes in order to gain valuable track position. Although there were no major incidents, the caution flag flew for several one-car spins. On the last restart, Gordon passed Clint Boyer for second place, and was hot on the tail of Tony Stewart. Before Gordon had a chance to make a pass on Stewart, time was up on the thirty lap event. Robby Gordon took the checker flag in second place.

"Scott Bloomquist and his team did an excellent job preparing the car for this race. I was told that if I was going to run it, I had to drive a Bloomquist car because they are the best, and I think we proved them right. I think if we would have had a few more laps or one more restart, I could have passed Tony Stewart for the win. I really would like to thank my sponsor Jim Beam for giving me the chance to come here and compete with the best of the best. I am very happy with my second place finish considering it was the first time I had ever seen that track. The event was a lot of fun, and it's even better knowing that it was for a good cause. I will definitely be back next year," Gordon stated.

  • Jr will get embarrassed at this race just like he does at every other race he's in. Why do you think he doesn't run this race???? Every other Hendrick guy does so you know it's not against it in his contract.

  • He would. Those dirt guys are pros too. Very few, if any, NASCAR guys would make the field for the Dream or the World 100. No disrespect for either group though.

  • Robby Gordon started racing in the deserts, and then ran CART against it's toughest field ever, won two races, nearly won the Indianapolis 500 twice -- and then won three NASCAR races. By a longshot the most under-rated driver in the current NASCAR field.

  • man bloomer knows how to build a car. but i couldnt stand him until saturday night @ florence he ran 2nd to pearson and told him he ran a hell of a race and even shook his hand. it was a great show

  • and carl edwards i KNOW he can drive dirt i ran against him at batesville in a modified

  • not really. u would be suprised at how many guys started on there local asphault tracks. only a small handful of the nascar drivers today started on dirt. back in the day tho everybody started on the dirt.

  • Scott runs the dream the next day against real late model drivers
