In this series I cover key features of backpacking boot construction to help you in your purchase decision. I may have left some things out but I cover the important parts. I don't review specific boots and probably won't ever: models change frequently and it's just logistically impossible for me now. Using the info I provide here just give a good basis for getting the right heavy duty hiking boot.

** Please do not PM me with questions about specific boot models and what would be good for you. I apologize but I just don't have the time to research it for you.

  • Nutnfancy, I just had to send out a huge thank you on this video. I followed what you said in here word for word and ended up with a set of Merrell mid rise moab ventilators. I'm an insurance adjuster and spend a lot of time not only hiking in the woods but in bunt buildings. I spent about an hour going through different boots and trying them on the incline and decline ramps and found these to fit the best. I'm at about a week now with them and wish I would have done this years ago. Thanks!

  • Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day.

Teach a man to fish and he will eat for life... until the government notices that he is fishing. Then they will tax him 2 fish per day, force him to buy a fishing license, give him a quota of 3 fishes per day. Say he is polluting the river so he has to pay 1 fish per day to clean it up. Then he has to take his fish to a licensed, inspected, unionized fish processing plant to be processed. This costs 1 fish per day.

  • Great info! I learned a lot. This what youtube should be!

  • I THOUGHT I remembered seeing a vid about hiking boots! Glad I went searching and found this series. As usual, VERY informative and really helps with making not only the right choices, but also (like with ANYTHING you review) helps your set aside money for the boot you'll actually buy. Your are your best asset in the outdoors...they should ALWAYS get the royal treatment...ESPECIALLY when you're in harsh conditions.

    Thanks Nutn!
